Batea Mahuida - Snow park - Location
Description:
Mapuche culture and winter sports are mingled in this ski center run by the Puel community. Batea Mahuida, which in the Mapuche language means “Basin Mount”, originated when the Batea volcano became extinguished and a lagoon was given birth in its crater. This lagoon remains covered by snow through out the winter. On its summit, the Bío Bío River rises and the Icalma Volcano, on the Chilean side, can be observed.

Where it is:
Mount Batea Mahuida is located 8 km away from Villa Pehuenia at 2,000 masl in the District of Aluminé. From Neuquén City, situated 306 km from Villa Pehuenia, you can reach this site through National Route 22 and then, from Zapala, along Provincial Route 13 across Primeros Pinos. Another alternative is to continue your journey from Zapala through Provincial Route 23 up to Rahue and then take Provincial Route 46.

Seasons:
From July through October.
Daily pass: $30 Argentine pesos.

Activities:
Downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowmobile and sled rides.

Lifts and Trails:
On the mount slopes, the snow accumulation and the protection from the wind create excellent conditions for skiing. The main trail, which is 500 meters long, has two lifts: a double surface lift (T-Bar), which is 610 meters long, and a 150 meter-long poma lift. Besides, there is a cross-country ski trail and an exclusive sled trail for kids.

Services:
The ski center has a coffee-shop, an information office, first aid facilities, patrolling service, and snowmobiles and sleds for rides.
During the ski season, instructors from the Mapuche Puel community offer individual and group lessons.

This Snow Park offers the possibility to practise all skiing modes: down-hill, cross-country and snowboarding. It has two lifts: one 600-meter T-bar and one 200-meter poma lift, and three runs of a similar extension, with slopes that range from 10º to 25º. It also has a cross-country skiing circuit and a sledge track for the little ones, and for the not-so-little ones as well.

*The Ski School, headed by specialized Mapuche instructors, offers group or individual classes, adapting the lessons to the learning level and the age of the skiers, to guarantee them a fun and safe experience.

*The Snow Park offers other alternatives for relaxation, like guided excursions to Batea Mahuida Volcano and the Pehuén forests, going snowshoe hiking or riding snowmobiles.

*The restaurant-café at the base of the hill, offers visitors delicious Patagonian dishes, fast food, cakes and chocolates, drinks and hot wine.
